The Wiluna end of infamous Gunbarrel Highway, Western Australia.

On paper, this dirt track was to be the most difficult crossing we would attempt. However, 150 kilometres (90 miles) into the journey, we were stopped by a guy from Wongawol station who warned us that further up there was a 25 kilometre (15 mile) long muddy stetch and that it was impassable.

After much deliberation, we reluctantly admitted defeat. The weather was not looking good, we didn't have the permits required to enter Warburton and the fact that a 100 metre (330 feet) muddy section took us over 30 minutes to cross meant that the risk was just too great.
